TEACHING

Volunteers interested in this program shall teach in either the basic, senior secondary schools. However volunteers are expected to have acquired some knowledge or skill in the field or subject they want to teach. Subjects include the following: English, Mathematics, Accounting, Visual arts, Science, Economics, Agriculture science, Social studies and technical subjects.

HIV/AIDS SENSITIZATION

Those who apply to this program shall be working in selected communities in the central region of Ghana. They will educate pupils, students and communities on dangers associated with the disease and how to live HIV/AIDS free lives. Activities shall include discussions, film shows among others. Volunteers are expected to answer questions from the audience after the show. Volunteers can bring with them educated films on this subject to enhance the quality of this project.

PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED SCHOOLS & HOMES

Volunteers who want to work under this project shall work under the supervision of authorities of these departments and should have some basic knowledge and life of the mentally retarded.

ORPHANAGE HOME

At least volunteers with basic education are welcome since most of these children are in their formative years. Working with these children requires patience and absolute care.

REGISTRATION/PARTICIPATION FEE

Each volunteer is required to pay € 1200 (program fee) and additional € 100 for registration.

This covers the following:

  • Your accommodation for at most 3 months
  • Minor health problems (headache, cough etc.)
  • Certificate of participation.
  • Brochures

Very Important

  • There shall be cell meetings every month to help check volunteers’ and host family interaction and well being.
Volunteers have every right to report any unfriendly attitude by his/her host parents to his coordinator to ensure better treatment.

INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE

This is a special program designed to host foreign students who want to study Ghanaian culture and customs. Participants shall receive lectures on indigenous and practices from lecturers and traditional leaders.

Places of study include historic shrines, traditional palaces, sacred groves, etc. Other communities such as the ‘witches camp’ which was established for females perceived to possess witchcraft; a spirit, detestable in the indigenous community.

Interested participants and students are advised to apply at least one month to enable our lecturers and other traditional leaders in places of study to have enough preparation.

NOTE:

  • We strongly recommend that this program shall not welcome less than ten (10) students/participants.
  • Each participant/student has to pay €1500 for ten (10) days. This shall cover transportation to five selected study areas, accommodation and tuition.

Selected attractions such as the Kakum National Park, castles and water falls in Ghana shall be visited.

INTERNSHIP

Volunteers wishing to do their internships in Ghana will be required to submit documents certificates proving their qualification to work in such departments as well as institutions in Ghana. Students as well as lecturers shall have the opportunity to teach in selected senior secondary schools and other tertiary institutions (Universities and Polytechnics).

Banks, hospitals or clinics are other interesting departments for such internships.

We recommend that you make all the necessary documents to HELP at least one month prior to your coming.

RESEARCH

This is an opportunity for students and other research fellows who want to undertake researches in Ghana. Areas like the study of herbal medicines, indigenous knowledge on how the environment is conserved or protected. The Noguchi memorial institute for medical research and Center for scientific research into plant medicine are research centers in the country where various researches are conducted especially for the above purpose. Interested students or researchers who want to undertake research into this field can contact HELP for the necessary arrangements.
